Dental Hygiene

At your initial appointment our doctors can determine whether you are a candidate for porcelain veneers. Dr. Bruce Crispin or Dr. Kristi Crispin and their team pride themselves in successfully correcting existing problems with porcelain veneers.

A porcelain veneer is a thin, custom-made shell designed to cover the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth, changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Porcelain veneers are commonly used to address a variety of dental issues, including:

  1. Discolored Teeth: Teeth that are stained due to root canal treatment, tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride, or other causes.
  2. Worn Down Teeth: Teeth that are worn down from excessive grinding or acid erosion.
  3. Chipped or Broken Teeth: Teeth that have been chipped or broken.
  4. Misaligned, Uneven, or Irregularly Shaped Teeth: Teeth that are uneven, have gaps, or are misaligned.
  5. Gaps Between Teeth: Teeth that have spaces between them.

Porcelain veneers are favored because they mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth and are highly resistant to stains. Porcelain veneers are a durable and aesthetic solution to enhance your smile and boost your confidence.

If you have one or more missing teeth, Dr. Crispin will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants at your consultation appointment. Dr. Crispin understands that tooth loss is a common problem and is caused from various problems such as trauma, gum disease, decay and tooth fracture. Determining the best way to treat your mouth and return it to the healthy natural state is our specialty.

Three Components of a Dental Implant:

    • Implant Fixture: A small, screw-like post made of titanium or a titanium alloy that is surgically placed into the jawbone. This acts as the root of the artificial tooth.
    • Abutment: A connector piece that attaches to the implant fixture and supports the crown or other dental prostheses.
    • Crown: The visible part of the implant that looks like a natural tooth. It is attached to the abutment and custom-made to match the color and shape of the patient’s natural teeth

Advantages of Dental Implants:

        • Natural Look and Feel: Implants are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth.
        • Durability: With proper care, dental implants can last many years, often a lifetime.
        • Bone Preservation: Implants help preserve the jawbone by preventing bone loss that typically occurs with missing teeth.
        • Oral Health: Unlike traditional bridges, implants do not require the alteration of adjacent teeth, preserving more of the patient’s natural teeth.
        • Improved Functionality: Implants provide stable support for chewing and speaking, improving overall oral function.
        • Comfort and Confidence: Implants eliminate the discomfort and inconvenience of removable dentures, providing a more secure and comfortable fit.

At the dental practice of Drs. Bruce and Kristi Crispin, a variety of dental crowns are used to meet the diverse needs of their patients. The two most frequently utilized types are Zirconia Crowns and Emax Crowns, due to their numerous advantages.

Zirconia Crowns

Advantages:

  • Strength and Durability: Highly resistant to fractures and wear, making them ideal for patients who grind their teeth.
  • Biocompatibility: Well-tolerated by the body, with minimal risk of allergic reactions or gum irritation.
  • Esthetics: Can be color-matched to surrounding teeth for a natural look, especially suitable for molar crowns due to their opacity.
  • Minimal Tooth Preparation: Requires less removal of the natural tooth structure.
  • Longevity: Tend to last longer, offering a cost-effective solution over time.

Emax Crowns

Advantages:

  • Aesthetics: High translucency mimics the natural appearance of teeth, making them ideal for front teeth.
  • Strength and Durability: Made from lithium disilicate, these crowns withstand normal biting and chewing forces.
  • Minimal Tooth Preparation: Preserves more of the original tooth structure.
  • Biocompatibility: Well-tolerated by gums and oral tissues, with a low risk of irritation or allergic reactions.
  • Versatility: Suitable for various restorations, including veneers, inlays, onlays, and crowns.

Consultation and Decision

After a thorough consultation discussing your specific case, Drs. Bruce and Kristi Crispin will work with you to determine which type of restorative material will best fit your dental needs, ensuring both longevity and aesthetics.

At the dental office of Dr. Bruce and Kristi Crispin, we also offer Emax inlays and onlays, which are an ideal alternative to crowns. These options are more conservative and preserve more of your natural tooth structure.

Inlays and Onlays

Advantages:

  1. Conservative Treatment:
    • Preservation of Tooth Structure: Emax inlays and onlays require less removal of the natural tooth compared to full crowns, maintaining more of your original tooth structure.
    • Minimally Invasive: The procedure is less invasive, focusing on repairing only the damaged or decayed portion of the tooth.
  2. Esthetics:
    • Natural Appearance: Emax inlays and onlays are made from high-translucency lithium disilicate, which can be precisely color-matched to your natural teeth for a seamless look.
    • Ideal for Visible Areas: They are particularly suitable for teeth that are visible when you smile, ensuring a natural and attractive appearance.
  3. Strength and Durability:
    • Durable Material: The lithium disilicate material provides excellent strength, making inlays and onlays durable and long-lasting.
    • Suitable for Chewing Forces: They can withstand normal biting and chewing forces, making them a reliable choice for restoring teeth.
  4. Biocompatibility:
    • Well-Tolerated: Emax inlays and onlays are biocompatible, meaning they are unlikely to cause allergic reactions or irritate the gums.
    • Healthy Option: The material is resistant to corrosion and does not conduct heat, reducing sensitivity issues.

Ideal Applications:

  • Moderate Decay or Damage: When a tooth has moderate decay or damage that does not require a full crown.
  • Large Fillings: An alternative to large fillings, providing a stronger and more durable restoration.
  • Fractured Teeth: Suitable for repairing fractured teeth, especially in cases where a full crown is not necessary.

Consultation and Customization:

During your consultation, Drs. Bruce and Kristi Crispin will evaluate your dental needs and discuss whether Emax inlays or onlays are the best option for you. This collaborative approach ensures that you receive a tailored treatment plan aimed at preserving your natural tooth structure while achieving optimal aesthetics and functionality.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction, also known as full mouth rehabilitation, is a transformative dental procedure designed to restore the functionality, health, and appearance of a person’s entire mouth. This comprehensive approach often combines restorative, cosmetic, and surgical dental techniques to address a range of complex oral issues, including tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, and structural damage.

The primary objective of full mouth reconstruction is not only to improve the esthetics of the smile but also to restore essential oral functions like chewing, speaking, and overall comfort. This is crucial for enhancing the patient’s quality of life, particularly when dental problems have progressed to a severe degree.

The process begins with a detailed assessment, involving imaging, diagnostics, and sometimes 3D modeling, to evaluate the condition of the teeth, gums, and jaw. Based on this comprehensive evaluation, a customized treatment plan is developed. This plan may include procedures such as:

  • Dental Crowns and Bridges: To restore damaged or missing teeth.
  • Dental Implants: To replace missing teeth and provide a permanent solution.
  • Veneers: To enhance the appearance of teeth that are discolored, chipped, or misaligned.
  • Periodontal Therapy: To treat gum disease and improve gum health.
  • Orthodontics: In some cases, braces or Invisalign are necessary to correct misaligned teeth or bite issues.
  • Jaw Surgery: Occasionally required to correct structural problems or misalignments.

Ideal Candidates for Full Mouth Reconstruction:

Full mouth reconstruction is often ideal for patients who have experienced extensive dental damage due to factors like severe decay, trauma, or congenital issues. It is also suited for individuals who suffer from complex dental problems affecting both function and esthetics, offering a comprehensive solution that revitalizes oral health and boosts confidence.

The benefits of full mouth reconstruction extend beyond the smile, as it contributes to improved overall health, including better digestion and speech, while alleviating discomfort associated with dental issues.
